Men’s Soccer Results (Sept. 11)
Wright State 3, IUPUI 0
DePaul 2, Loyola 1

INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of Horizon League teams split results on Tuesday, as Wright State dominated IUPUI at home, while Loyola took an early lead before falling in a Red Line showdown at DePaul.

Wright State 3, IUPUI 0
Wright State opened an early lead before tacking on two goals in the waning minutes to knock off visiting IUPUI, 3-0, at Alumni Field.

Wright State (2-4-0) snapped a two-game losing skid in dominating the Jaguars, outshooting IUPUI, 22-9, and taking 12 shots on goal to IUPUI’s two.

It was the fourth shot of the Raiders’ night that proved to be the game-winner, as Derek Zuniga potted his second goal of the year, with Will Gbelee and Albert Niolsson collecting assists.

Controlling the match, Wright State added an insurance goal in the 69th minute when Emeka Ononye finished off a corner kick sent in from Zuniga. Zuniga added an assist on Angelo Capuano’s goal in the 88th minute to round out the scoring.

Jacob Bye made two saves for the Raiders in collecting his first shutout of the year.

DePaul 2, Loyola 1
Loyola took an early lead, but two second half goals sent DePaul past the Ramblers, 2-1, in a matchup of teams just a few stops apart on Chicago’s Red Line.

Loyola (0-4-0) opened the scoring in the 40th minute, as pressure in the 18-yard box led to a penalty kick for the Ramblers. James Howe converted the PK, putting the Ramblers out front after the first half for the first time this year.

However, a whistle in the box in the 54th minute led to a DePaul penalty kick, and Antonio Aguilar converted the equalizer for the Blue Demons. In the 81st minute, the Blue Demons took the lead, drawing Loyola keeper Peter McKeown out of the box before converting the eventual game-winner.

After the intermission, a call in the box in the 54th minute allowed DePaul to equalize as Antonio Aguilar took a penalty kick, tying the game 1-1. The Ramblers fought back, looking to take control of the game, but it was not to be as DePaul took the lead in the 81st minute after bringing McKeown out of the box on a prior save.

Trailing by a goal, Dane Bergstron was quick on the restart, dribbling the ball down the field and crossing it to Andrew Raymonds who sent a header high of the goal. In the final minute, Howe created a last chance for Loyola, shooting the ball high just outside of the 18.
