INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior defender I’esha King (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been named Horizon League Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week of Oct. 10-16. The award is the first of King’s career.
Wright State (7-6-2, 2-2-1 Horizon) collected an important Horizon League victory on Saturday, knocking off Loyola, 2-1, at Alumni Field. The Raiders now stand in fourth place in the League and in position for a berth in the Horizon League Tournament.
King posted both goals for Wright State, the first two goals of her four-year career with the Raiders. One of 10 seniors recognized before the contest, King put WSU ahead 1-0 at the 52:34 mark of the second half, breaking away from two defenders to beat the keeper from the middle of the box.
King struck again nearly 20 minutes later at the 72:09 mark as her shot from the left side of the box glanced off a Loyola defender and into the net.
Wright State will be in action twice this week as the Raiders look to climb the League standings. On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the Raiders head to Detroit (12-4-1, 5-1-0 Horizon) for a 4 p.m. ET match at Titan Field. Wright State continues its road swing on Sunday, Oct. 23, taking on Valparaiso (7-6-2, 3-2-0 Horizon). The match will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
